Hello! I'm Ali,
An internationally recognized artist whose distinct approach to Modern Fresco Painting has gained me significant acclaim. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, my passion for art led me to study painting at Kendall College of Art and Design in Michigan, followed by a residency at the prestigious New York Studio Residency Program in New York City. I earned a BFA from Kendall in 1995, an achievement that marked the beginning of my journey as a professional artist. My paintings have been exhibited internationally in cities like New York, Los Angeles, London, and Barcelona, earning awards and recognition along the way.
At 22, I began my teaching journey and co-founded The New School Academy of Fine Art in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I dedicated myself to fostering classical training for aspiring artists while refining my own artistic voice. In 2001, I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Inspired by the unique light, landscape, and rich artistic traditions of the Southwest, I spent six years there, developing my modern fresco process. This technique became a hallmark of my work, allowing me to create deeply textured, luminous paintings that combine the timelessness of fresco with a contemporary sensibility. This process uses QoR watercolors, which lend a vibrancy and depth to the work that have become instantly recognizable

Through 5+ hours of step‑by‑step instruction across four detailed lessons, I'll reveals my signature technique: layering translucent pigment on Aquaboard (a kaolin‑clay watercolor surface) to create ethereal, backlit effects. By mastering color mixing, layering, and workflow strategies, you’ll leave equipped to produce portraits with breathtaking depth and emotion—just like me, Ali.
