About Ali Cavanaugh

I am an internationally recognized artist known for my unique approach to Modern Fresco Painting. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, my passion for art led me to study painting at Kendall College of Art and Design, followed by a residency at the New York Studio Residency Program. I earned my BFA in 1995, marking the beginning of my professional journey. At 22, I co-founded The New School Academy of Fine Art in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I dedicated myself to fostering classical training for aspiring artists while refining my own artistic voice.

My paintings have been exhibited internationally in cities like New York, Los Angeles, London, and Barcelona, earning awards and recognition along the way. My work has been featured on book covers and in prominent publications such as The New York Times Magazine and TIME. In 2019, I launched the Aligator Watercolor Community, mentoring artists worldwide in modern watercolor portraiture. Through innovation, teaching, and connection, I continue to push boundaries and inspire others, creating art that resonates deeply with universal human experiences.
