Hey, I'm TJ
I have been making art since I was a child, but I did not venture into the world of oil painting until 2013. I painted exactly 2 things that year. It was a deer painting and a still life of a pineapple. I hated them, threw out the deer painting and can’t quite remember what happened with the pineapple painting. I didn’t touch oil paint again until 2015.
I got asked to paint a portrait and when I realized I needed a medium that dried slower as I paint, I used oil paint once again. This time, I did my research, watched tutorials, read blog posts, and the result was more to my liking. I still did not love oil paint. So, I again left it alone. This process repeated, and it wasn’t until 2022 that I discovered a way of painting with oil that I absolutely love.
And now it is my favorite paint medium to work with. I can’t say that I am qualified with a classically trained art degree. What I have is years of hating then loving oil painting, with many lessons learned along the way that I hope will help you discover your own love of oil painting.

This course contains teachings of techniques for various different mediums that I use in all of my drawings as this is a mixed media course.
This course runs you through line work exercises intended to improve your line art and hatching technique, and if you don’t have a technique for hatching, this course will give you the foundation to develop it.
All videos are in full HD and you can adjust the speed, audio and quality.
Ink application, colored pencil application and alcohol marker application will all be spoken of and taught in this course. I intend to touch on not so traditional ways of applying these mediums and of combining them together into a cohesive unit that breaks the mold.

We will look together at the materials, basic techniques, and knowledge needed to begin this journey. Approaching a new technique means first learning how best to use the tools at your disposal.
