Hi! I’m Emma,
the artist behind Art by Emma Lian. I’m a self-taught watercolor artist who picked up a watercolor brush for the first time in 2021 after my husband gifted me my first set of paints, and what began as a creative outlet quickly became much more than a hobby. Today, my work is known for its vibrant color, rich detail, and realistic style that often surprises people who can’t believe it’s watercolor. What sets my work apart is my bold use of color and my belief that watercolor can be every bit as vibrant, saturated, and detailed as any other medium. I love challenging the idea that watercolor has to be soft or loose, instead using the medium to create richly layered paintings inspired by botanicals, still lifes, and the everyday objects that quietly tell our stories. Because I taught myself through hours of practice and online tutorials, I understand what it’s like to learn from the very beginning and how overwhelming watercolor can feel at first. In this course, I’ll guide you through the foundational techniques that helped me build confidence, develop my style, and create paintings I’m proud of. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or returning to watercolor after years away, I’m excited to share everything I wish someone had taught me when I was starting out.
