The course is designed for English speakers. Because English and Czech are very different languages, I explain things in English for most of the course so that you can understand the main concepts more easily, and the transition to Czech is smoother and easier to follow.

No previous knowledge of the language is required.

The beginner's course is designed for those who are starting from scratch, which is why we begin with the absolute basics. However, the course is also perfect for advanced beginners, as the lessons gradually become more challenging, helping you build confidence and fluency step by step.

In this first module, we will welcome you to the course and introduce its overall structure. You will also get to know the instructor and their background in teaching the Czech language. This section will help you understand the course objectives, content, and learning approach.

What is this mysterious language?

In this module, we begin with a short story to introduce the sounds of the Czech language in context. You will learn the Czech alphabet, how to pronounce each letter, and understand basic intonation patterns. We will also explore grammatical gender, noun patterns (vzory), basic declension (skloňování), and an introduction to verb conjugation (časování).

This module begins with a short story to introduce everyday interactions. You will learn how to greet others, introduce yourself, say where you’re from, and use personal pronouns. We’ll cover the verbs být (to be) and nebýt (not to be), and the difference between vykání (formal) and tykání (informal) speech. A short review story will help reinforce what you've learned.

This module opens with a short story that introduces daily routines in Czech. You will learn how to conjugate verbs in the present tense, talk about jobs, and use the days of the week. We'll also cover frequency expressions like often, always, and never, along with numbers for sharing phone numbers and age. A final story will review and reinforce the key concepts.

This module begins with a short story to introduce how we talk about places and movement in Czech. You will learn directional words like nahoru, dolů, doleva, and how to use the verbs jít (to go on foot) and jet (to go by vehicle). We'll also cover how to talk about time and introduce verbs like chodit and docházet to express regular movement. A short review story will help consolidate these new skills.

We start this module with a short story that introduces how to describe order and express likes in Czech. You'll learn ordinal numbers (první, druhý, etc.), how to use the accusative case (4. pád), and how to say what you like using mám rád. We will also cover the demonstrative pronouns ten, ta, to. The module concludes with a short review story to reinforce these topics.

This module opens with a short story to introduce the use of past tense in Czech. You will learn how to form and use the past tense (minulý čas 1 a 2), as well as how to describe things using adjectives by answering the question jaký? (“what kind?”). The module includes two parts focused on adjectives and ends with a review story to practice both past tense and descriptive language.

This module begins with a short story to introduce future tense in Czech. You will learn how to form and use the future tense (budoucí čas 1 a 2) and how to ask about destinations with kam? (“where to?”). We will also cover possessive pronouns like můj, tvůj, and others. The module concludes with a short review story to help reinforce the use of future tense and possession in everyday language.

This final module begins with a short story that introduces three essential verbs: chtít (to want), moci (can), and muset (must). You'll learn how to express desires, possibilities, and obligations in everyday situations. A longer review story will help consolidate everything you've learned across the course, followed by a quiz to test your understanding.
