Hi, I'm Emma!
a figurative oil painter based in New York City. My work explores the complexities of womanhood through contemporary interpretations of classical painting, using vibrant pink worlds, feminine motifs, and the language of storytelling.
I’m fascinated by the duality of womanhood, the way power and sexuality can exist alongside beauty, softness, and traditionally “girly” traits. In my paintings, I use figures, clothing, costumes, and stage-like poses to explore these different sides of identity, almost as if I’m playing a game of dress-up.
My background in painting, art history, and education has taught me to look closely at both the traditions behind a painting and the choices that make it feel contemporary and personal.
I believe painting gives us the freedom to explore different identities, perspectives, and ways of seeing ourselves.
This is the approach I love sharing: helping artists understand figurative painting more deeply, explore color, pose, clothing, and storytelling, and use the language of classical painting to create work that feels uniquely their own.
