Hi, I'm Josh
I grew up in Edmonton, spent a couple of years in Vancouver studying film, then returned home and committed to painting full-time.
Drawing is the first thing I remember doing, and after studying design at NAIT and a decade of murals across three provinces, it remains the constant thread through my work. I paint in oil and acrylic, using brush, roller, and occasionally spray can, and I rarely set out simply to record what I see, so fox becomes a fox in a suit, a raccoon appears crowned in flowers.
I'm less interested in a single signature style than in following what each wall calls for, even when that leads somewhere unexpected.
My subjects usually begin as something ordinary: an animal, a piece of nature, a detail most people would walk past. My aim is for the finished piece to make them stop. Whether the work is large or small, I want it to feel like an invitation rather than a test to pass.
This course walks through my full process, from first sketch to a wall thirty feet tall. I'd be glad to have you join me.
