Hi, I’m James.

I’m a self-taught artist who specializes in painting pet portraits, capturing the character and spirit of our furry companions.

I discovered painting later in life, after leaving a corporate career, and that freedom to find my own way has shaped everything about how I work.

I use water-mixable oils and the grid method, but my process isn’t about rigid technique. It’s about finding a simple, approachable way to create portraits that capture both accuracy and personality.

These days, I live on a houseboat with my rescue dog, Benji.
Life on the water, with its quiet rhythm and closeness to nature, gives me endless inspiration and space to keep growing as an artist.

For me, painting has never been about rigid technique or perfection. It’s about connection — to the animal in front of me, to the person who loves them, and to the joy that comes from bringing a portrait to life on canvas.
