Learn to design characters that can act, express,
and carry a story.
Hello there! I have some exciting news, and I’m very happy to finally share it with you.
I’m creating a brand new online character design course, and it will be opening soon.
This course is all about helping you create characters that do more than just look cool on a page. I want to show you how to design characters that can move, react, feel, tell a story, and maybe cause a tiny bit of chaos along the way.
Together, we’ll explore shape language, gesture, posing, facial expressions, personality, storytelling, and the small design choices that make a character feel alive instead of stiff, flat, or like they’re awkwardly waiting for their turn to speak.
My goal is to help you build characters with stronger silhouettes, clearer emotions, better expressions, and a stronger sense of who they are, so they feel like they actually belong in a comic, animation, or story world.
Are you interested? Then join the course waiting list!
You’ll be the first to know when the course opens, and you’ll also secure a special waitlist discount.

Characters That Feel Alive, Not Just “Well Drawn”
Learn how to build characters from the inside out, with personality, contradictions, story context, and design choices that make them feel believable, expressive, and ready to exist beyond a blank page.
Expressions & Poses That Actually Tell the Story
Discover how to use face acting, gesture, body language, posture, hands, clothing flow, and movement so your characters can act, react, and show emotion without looking stiff, copied, or awkwardly frozen in place.
A Story-Ready Character Sheet You Can Actually Use
Bring everything together into a complete character sheet with a full-body design, expressions, poses, outfit notes, colour palette, personality cues, and one small story moment that shows who your character really is.
Hello, I am Lio!
I’m a Scottish comic artist and illustrator, also known as Kroovv. I create character-driven fantasy art, comics, and slightly suspicious little weirdos with big personalities, dramatic faces, and a habit of looking like they definitely have a backstory.
Through my work, including Horizon Walkers and Gravehearts, I love building characters that feel like they belong in a world: expressive, emotional, a little chaotic, and ready to do more than just stand there looking pretty.
Over the years, I’ve worked with clients like Critical Role, Simon & Schuster, Blizzard, LEGO, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, and various indie publishers, while also sharing my own comics, character designs, sketches, and behind-the-scenes work across my online platforms.
In this course, I’ll be sharing my process for designing characters that feel alive, from personality, shape language, expressions, and body language to outfits, colour, poses, and small story moments.
My approach is practical, playful, very human, and definitely no-AI. You don’t need to have the perfect character idea before you begin. We’ll take the little gremlin in your brain and help turn them into someone who can act, feel, move, and maybe emotionally destroy someone in a comic panel one day.
