Hi, I'm Emma!
A watercolor artist who believes in the quiet magic of the natural world. My journey with watercolor began in 2021 while living in the Australian Outback, where the rugged landscapes and resilient flora sparked a deep love for painting botanicals. What started as a whim (turning my wedding bouquet into watercolor studies) quickly became a passion that led me to explore the delicate interplay of light, color, and form.
Now based in Colorado, I’ve found my artistic voice within a vibrant creative community. My work is rooted in mindful observation, encouraging others to slow down and notice the beauty in everyday moments (a rose blooming on a city street, poppies pushing through concrete, or the intricate veins of a leaf). Through my paintings, I aim to capture not just the appearance of nature, but its essence: the resilience, vibrancy, and quiet strength of the world around us.
When I’m not painting, you’ll find me wandering farmers markets, getting lost in overgrown gardens, or chasing the perfect light for a new piece. Watercolor, to me, isn’t just a medium; it’s a way of seeing and connecting with nature, with myself, and with the stories waiting to be told in every brushstroke.

Materials & Colors
Get started with the right tools: brushes, paints, and paper for botanical watercolor. Learn about cold-pressed vs. hot-pressed paper, brush sizes, and water control to create the perfect foundation for your paintings. Then, dive into color theory; warm and cool tones, pigment properties, and how to mix vibrant, lifelike greens and other hues using my “No-Mud” Mixing Rules.
Modules 3 & 4
Techniques & Working from Photos
Master essential techniques like glazing, wet-on-wet, and lifting to build depth and texture. Learn how to mix for value and hue, avoid muddy colors, and create realistic greens and shadows. Then, discover how to choose, crop, and compose the best reference photos, so you can translate real-life beauty into your painting with ease.
Modules 5 & 6
Structure & Details
Learn how to plan and structure your painting: sketching, transferring, and creating a background wash. Then, bring your subject to life by painting petals, leaves, and stems with base layers, shadows, and highlights. Use my “Mirror Trick” to check values and my “Petal Recipe” to capture the details of nature.
