Hello, I’m Miranda!
I’m an Orange County–based oil painter whose work creates space for painting and diegetic collage in today’s fast-paced, digital world. Each piece reflects how society behaves in cyber landscapes, where we all seek our “15 minutes of fame.”
Through pop culture references, consumerism, and product placement, I cherry-pick fragments of our culture while offering commentary on how we consume media and curate our online lives. Using motifs of flame, reflection, skewed spatial awareness, and shifting perspectives, my paintings emulate faux cyber landscapes that feel both familiar and surreal.
My process mirrors daily life: collecting scraps of the mundane, breaking them down into core emotions, and layering them into collages and paintings — over and over — until the soul of the piece reveals itself. This blend of writing, painting, and collage captures the unpredictable, ever-changing world we live in, where everything can shift except what has already been laid down.
I see each work as a physical manifestation of passion — a reflection of the ways we are all collages of the people we’ve met, the mannerisms we’ve copied, and the keepsakes we’ve carried. Module 3
Sketching & Proportions
Here, we’ll translate your reference photo into a strong sketch. You’ll practice observing highlights, shadows, and planes, and I’ll share tips for simplifying forms before adding details. We’ll also focus on value—understanding light and dark is the key to building a painting that feels alive and dimensional.
Module 4
Color Theory in Action
This module takes you deep into color. You’ll explore the color wheel, warm vs. cool tones, and why black paint isn’t the best choice for creating depth. I’ll show you the exact palette I use, how to mix clean colors, and how to annotate your reference photo to spot tints, tones, and shades before you paint.
Module 5
Painting Step by Step
Now it’s time to paint! We’ll start with prepping your canvas and laying down an underwash. Then you’ll move from the background into your objects, working light to dark and focusing on shape, value, and contrast. Along the way, you’ll learn techniques for accuracy, texture, and bringing your still life to life.
Module 6
Reflection & Finishing Touches
In the final module, we’ll step back and look at your painting with fresh eyes. You’ll learn how to know when a piece is finished, add final refinements, and reflect on what came easily and what challenged you. To wrap up, we’ll celebrate your work—whether you hang it on your wall or keep it as part of your journey.
