Hey, I'm Jamie,
An Australian artist whose work focuses on modern vanitas and romanticism in painting. I'm deeply interested in exploring narratives of human experience and consumption. I work across various mediums including portraiture, videography, and painting.
I particularly enjoy using a more classical style of oil painting to depict scenes and still life within a contemporary context. This approach allows me to detail, for example, the reflective surface of a mysterious mask sinking into an opaque background, often with a subtle, contemporary twist—like painting all four edges of the canvas in an intense cerise to create a glowing pink halo.
This is a playful nod to the color war between artists Kapoor and Semple. I've been exhibiting since 2014, with selected exhibitions including "Yalkuna" at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Sydney, "Sleep alone" at Espace quinzequinze in Paris, and shows like "Soft Machine" and "Sydney Contemporary." I've been fortunate enough to win multiple awards, including the Packing Room Prize for the Archibald, and have been a finalist in many other competitions.
