Hi, I'm Lena
After two years of living on the Dalmatian coast, I traded the tide outside my window for the oak parks of Prague, where Iām currently based. I was born in Slovakia, where I studied marketing and advertising, and where my two children were born.
Drawing is the very first thing I can actually remember, and after 10 years in marketing and IT, I hung up my office job for good to pursue art full-time.
I mostly work with watercolors, gouache and lately, my absolute obsession has been marker painting, both alcohol and acrylic markers. But no matter what medium I pick up, I rarely stick to just one.
I almost always create mixed media, layering one technique with another: ink, soft pastels, markers... I don't believe in the 'rule of fully mastering a pure technique.' I think an artist truly masters a technique when they recognize its limits and know how to push it further... and even further beyond.
My subject is often a seemingly simple object or piece of nature, and in this simplicity, I see true beauty, a uniquely incredible beauty that I try to capture with my brush. I like art that feels achievable, often working small so pieces feel inviting, not intimidating. Most of all, I want my work to carry feeling, and to encourage others to pick up a brush without fear of getting it wrong.
